  • Don't eat the cattle!
  • Fear the cattle for you shall not feast!
  • Our ships hold food and drinks don't eat the cattle here or we will pay dearly for it!
  • All death to us moral wretches are hateful but famine is the most pitiful, the worst end man can come to.
  • While Odysseus was in the land of the dead, Tiresias told him not to eat the cattle of the sun god or let his men eat the cattle of the sun god. Tiresias warned Odysseus about what would happen if they did eat the cattle of Helios(sun god) comes destruction to the crew and the ship.
  • Oh god in bliss forever, you made me sleep away this day of mischief!
  • After a month of traveling the open ocean, Odysseus and his crew get to the island of Helios and see the cattle which they were warned not to eat, and nymphs which tell them how the cattle is not under their provision.

  • While Odysseus was put into a deep and magical sleep Eurylocus decides that they all should eat the cattle and that the worst way to die is by starvation. Later on they ask the god for forgiveness by sacrificing a lamb.
  • Once Odysseus woke up he smelled a delicious smell of meat that was being cooked and he did not think twice about checking on his men for it was not the first time they disobeyed him. As soon as he saw all the meat he said to the gods " Oh father Zeus and gods in bliss forever, you made me sleep away this day of mischief! O cruel drowsing in evil hour!"
  • For 6 days the men and Odysseus enjoyed the sweet taste of Heilos's cattle. However, on the 7th day a gust of wind struck them and Zeus sent a lightning bolt crashing right into their ship, causing the ship to break and killing all the men except... Odysseus.
  • After watching his ship sink and all his men die Odysseus swam all the way to the island Calypso and there began a new journey..
