Storyboard Text

  • "What?"
  • "I got to tee-tee"
  • "Willie?"
  • "Thats what they be alright, Imm'grunts."
  • "Imm'grunts."
  • "It ain't polite. These folks' origins are not part of our immediate concern."
  • "Don't gawk"
  • "Sometimes it's Germans, sometimes it's Russians or Swedes. Furriners are taking over the country."
  • The train we boarded in Tipton had taken us North thru Cairo and Evansville and Vincennes to Chicago. Now, having transferred ourselves and our valise to newer train and having picked up many additional passengers, we were ready to head west for the Territory. And to pinpoint the new location of a toilet. Soon. TJ generally sound the alert until he was ready to rain into his shoes.
  • "This time it's Finns. Trainmaster told me so. Going to the Territory same's the rest of us, to seal a bit of luck."
  • I'm going there because I got nowehre else to gp. It is, strictly speaking, a matter other folks decided. I didn'y get to vote yea or nay on it.
  • The big-nosed man across the aile muttered as we prepared to set out on our quest.
  • Don't gawk I said!
  • At this moment Willie was looking over her brother because she did not know who the man was so she was thinking of what the man could do to her and TJ.
  • But Willie- they are weird! I mean, plain, flat-out, no-fooling weird. Look for yourself if you don't believe me.
  • But Finland. That's way up there by the Arctic Circle. Sun don't shine up there. Them folks are born in the dark and they die in the dark.
  • TJ reared up on his knees so that he could peek over the back of his seat. I hooked two fingers in his belt and hauled him down again.
  • I was no saint. I looked. The people coming toward us down the aisle were, indeed, like none I'd ever seen in my life. The men wore close-fitting caps made from animal fur, and knee length coats of the same stuff.
