I am Pygmalion and a very talented sculptor. I gave up hope on women and swore to be a bachelor.
Since I am a sculptor, I carved out my dream woman from ivory and named her Galatea.
I fell in love with my own creation. I keep kissing and hugging her as if she is real.
I even buy her gifts, dress her up and put her to bed.
It was time for Aphrodite Festival. After Pygmalion gave his gift to Aphrodite, he begged the Gods to find a real women like the ivory statue Galatea.
I will grant your wish Pygmalion, do not fret!
When Pygmalion came home, he kissed Galatea and she turned into a real woman.
Additional info: Ovidius didn't name the ivory statue.
As soon as Galatea layed eyes on Pygmalion she fell for him too.
They got married and had a child named Paphos whose name was given to Aphrodite's center in Cyprus.
