New York colony was founded by Peter Minuit in 1626. It was originally a Dutch colony called New Amsterdam. In 1664, the Dutch surrendered the colony to the English and it was renamed New York.
New York Colony was one of the Middle Colonies. The climate was good for farming. Many colonists had small family farms at their homes. Much of the land was flat with hills and smaller mountains.
New York was not dominated by only one religion, so many different religions were welcome there like Quakers, Catholics, Lutherans, Jews and others.
The main reasons for colonization this colony were money and natural reasons. The colony was always up to date on food and everything. They were very efficient at the cooking and using of natural resources.
Their government system ruled by give citizens a limited form of self government. Ruling powers were given to a governor.
They grew wheat, barley, oats, rye, and corn. The Middle Colonies were often called the "breadbasket" because they grew so much food.
