  • The Nutria’s original range was South America which included: Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
  • There’s no way to prevent their invasion, but the Nutria species were released into the wild by ranchers who could no longer afford to feed and house them.
  • Nutria were brought to America for fur ranching. During World War II fur prices collapsed and many ranchers lost interest. The animals were released and/or escaped into marshes where they quickly became established.
  • When the Nutria fled into swamplands they were suddenly discovered.
  • The Nutria is damaging many crops in Florida and destroying the swamp lands. These crimes made poor Charlie the Nutria go missing!!
