  • Eat your eggs, Walter
  • DAMN MY EGGS-DAMN ALL THE EGGS THAT EVER WAS!
  • Act One
  • We ain't never had none before - OPEN IT!
  • We ain't never been no people to act silly 'bout no money
  • Open it, Grandmama!
  • She went out and she bought you a house!
  • Act Two
  • I always wanted to live in a house
  • So you butchered up a dream of mine
  • Walter honey, be glad
  • The rest you put in a checking account - with our name on it.
  • This represents Scene 1 of Act 1 because this is in the first couple of pages in the play when Walter Lee is complaining about wanting to open the Liquor Store and Ruth is telling him to just eat his eggs. Ruth tells him countless times to eat his eggs but he won't.
  • Act Two
  • You trust me like that, Mama?
  • This represents Scene 2 of Act 1 because this is when Mama receives her check. Ruth and Travis are there with her while she opens the check and they are more excited than she is.
  • Act Three
  • The insurance money. My brother gave it away.
  • And it's gone?
  • This represents Scene 1 of Act 2 because this is when Mama comes home and tells the family that she bought the house. Walter gets a really upset because he feels as if she ruined his dreams.
  • Act Three
  • And we decided to move into our house because my father - my father - he earned it for us brick by brick.
  • Well - if you are that final about it...there is nothing left for me to say
  • This represents Scene 2 of Act 2 because this is when Mama gives Walter $6,500 and tells him to put $3,000 in the bank for Benethea and use the rest of the money for his liquor store.
  • This represents Act 3 because this is when Benethea is talking to Asagai on how Walter gave away all her school money away
  • This represents Act 3 because this is when Walter is telling Lindner that they are actually going to move into the house
