Laertes prepares to leave for France. He warns his sister Ophelia about falling in love with Hamlet. She agrees to keep his advice.

Polonius enters to say goodbye to his son. He tells Laertes that he must hurry to his ship but then stops him by giving him advice about how to behave. Then Laertes decides to leave.
Hamlet, Horatio and Marcellus watch outside the castle waiting for the ghost to show up. A few minutes later, the ghost appears and Hamlet calls out to it. The ghost wants him to follow him but the guys don't want him to. But he decides to go anyway.
The ghost tells Hamlet that he is his father's spirit and that he slept in a garden. The ghost tells Hamlet to take revenge. But he convinces Hamlet to not act against his mother.
The ghost disappears then Horatio and Marcellus arrives and ask Hamlet what happened. He doesn't tell them but says that he pretends to be a madman. The three men leave to head to the castle.
