  • Dr. King was ordered to pay $500 fine or serve 386 days in jail, since he was the leader of the MIA.
  • December 20, 1956

  • A federal district court rules that segregation on Alabama’s intrastate buses was unconstitutional, citing Brown v. Board of Education as precedent for the verdict.
  • The supreme court held the district court ruling and striked down laws requiring racial segregation on buses. The MIA said the boycott could end only when the order to desegregate is officially implemented.
  • The supreme court ordered against the segregation on city buses and it was delivered to the Montgomery city hall. And so the next day Montgomery buses were officially desegregated and the MIA ended the boycott.
