  • The geography of Korea is mountainous.

  • It was split into three separate kingdoms. Koguryo in the north, Paekche in the southwest, Silla in the southeast. The reason for the split was the Koreans drove them out.
  • Who ruled the different parts of the territory?
  • They were governed by the combination of hereditary monarch and powerful aristocratic families.
  • What became the state religion for Korea?
  • Buddhism became the state religion.
  • What kind of institutions did they adopt from other territories in the area?
  • Silla kings sponsored the building of many Buddhist temples.
  • Who led the suffering of the Korean people? (Why were they suffering?)
  • Mongol rule led the suffering. They were suffering because they were forced to build ships for Kulbai Khan's invasion of Japan.
  • What were the Koreans forced to do for the mongal?
  • They were forced to build ships for Kublai Khan's invasion of Japan.
