Sickle Cell Anemia is a blood disorder that's inherited from both parents to the child. Which means you were born with it, and it's not contagious either.

Yes, a bone marrow transplant. But it might not work for you, because you'll need a healthy sibling with matching tissues and a suitable donor.

How could have this been prevented?
This couldn't of been prevented but you should talk to your genetic counselor if you do plan to have any kids and carry the sickle cell trait.
