Odysseus tells of how him and his men got blown off course. Also he tells the Cyclops that he should offer them gifts because it is "custom to honor strangers."
After the Cyclops' eats two of Odysseus' men, he puts a gigantic slab of rock in front of the cave that no mortal creature can move, so they wouldn't escape
"We Cyclopes care not a whistle for your thundering Zeus or all the gos in bliss!" Now give me your men to eat!
"When the young Dawn with fingertips of rose lit up the world" the Cyclops went to go check on his flock of sheep outside of the cave.
"Great Sir, have a care for the gods' courtesy for Zeus" will come for revenge.
Look! There is a club, and this could really hurt the Cyclops. Let's sharpen it and put it in the fire and hide it from the Cyclops until the time is right.
Odysseus and his men then "rammed it deep in his crater eye, and leaned on it turning it as a shipwright turns a drill in planking." "The pierced ball hissed broiling, and the roots popped."
When the Cyclops comes back, Odysseus and his men offer him their very strong wine as an offering. This makes the Cyclops very unstable so Odysseus tries to fool the Cyclops and tell him that his name is Nohbody because he will believe anything at this point.
