All stars start off as a cloud of dust flouting in space called Stellar Nebula.
Then gravity pushes all of the coulds particles together and makes a star!
This star will spend most of its life on the main sequence. Where you can use an H-R diagram to see the brightness and the temperature of a star. As the star gets older it will move up on diagram.
As the star gets older it begins to get cooler and starts the expand.
Once the stars gets so big it explodes sending particles into space leaving just the core of the star.
The core is all that is left and it then becomes a white dwarf, that is small and not very bright.
