  • This wood is totally legal! My accountant just has their tags!
  • The Ibama agents drive down to the sawmill at the edge of the amazon. They are trying to find illegal mills and shut them down. They believe they have found one. Lets see if they are right.
  • Now this is good land for ranching!
  • They enter the mill and find João Pereira, the owner of the mill. He says that he's a totally legal logger. The absence of tags on his wood says otherwise.
  • Illegal logging is responsible for much of the Amazon's deforestation. But now that satellites can detect larger patches of deforestation, loggers cut smaller patches.
  • NO ILLEGAL LOGGING
  • The newly cleared forest is desired by ranchers and squatters, who determine the lands worth.
  • The Ibama agents reach a section of the forest where lots of illegal logging takes place. The agents demolish sawmills that don't have permits.
  • This is the type of things that is always going on and is responsible for lots of deforestation in the Amazon.
