  • When the war of 1812 started, James Madison was President.
  • One of the biggest cause of the war was that the British were attacking our ships and forcing sailors into the British Navy. The breaking point was when they attacked a US Navy ship instead of a trade ship.

  • USS Chesapeake
  • Meanwhile in Baltimore, the British were bombarding Fort McHenry.
  • During the war the British marched into Washington and burned it to the ground including The White House.
  • In 1814 the treaty of Ghent was signed to stop the fighting, nothing else.

  • But after the treaty was signed, news didn't reach all of the troops. So British troops marched to New Orleans. They were defeated by US troops even though they were outnumbered.
  • After the battle, Andrew Jackson became an American Hero and later became president.

  • After the war Nationalism and Manufacturing and Industry exploded in the US.
