Storyboard Text

  • There has been a death.
  • I have noticed many people gathering here tonight. What is that about?
  • They arrived at Uncle Henrik's house safely after the nerve-racking incident on the train. After many people have been arriving at the house, a soldier came to question them and luckily they were saved again. Mama and Uncle Henrik said their Great Aunt Birtie died, but Annemarie knew it wasn't true. The Jews were gathered to the house- to get safely to Sweden.
  • Why was this so carefully hidden?
  • I don't know!!
  • Your mother has packed your uncle a stupid handkerchief!
  • Peter led half the group through the path to the boat where Uncle Henrik was waiting to guide them to safety. Mama led the others a little bit later.
  • This handkerchief has a drug that blocks out the dogs' smell temporarily.
  • After her mother was on the path for too long, Annemarie started to get worried. It was already almost morning. She looked out the window and she spotted her mother laying on the ground outside. It turns out that she hurt her ankle.
  • When Annemarie was walking up the steps she noticed a packet that was supposed to be brought to her uncle. It was about 4:15, and she went onto the path to bring Henrik the item. Once again she got stopped by soldiers.
  • Annemarie wonders what the handkerchief was for and she was also nervous about where all the Jews had gone. It turns out they were underneath the boat floor in a secret hiding spot. Now that Henrik had the handkerchief, he was able to trick the Nazi's into believing no one else was on the boat and he got everyone to Sweden safely.
  • When the war finally ended, Annemarie went to the blue dresser in her room, and opened the drawer. She saw Lise's old yellow dress and wrapped inside was Ellen's shiny gold necklace. She missed both of them badly, but she knew that Ellen would come back soon.
