Storyboard Text

  • Hello, my name is Ernest Rutherford. Today I will be talking about  how I studied the atomic theory and went further by studying the atomic model and structure.
  • The atomic theory is the theory that all matter is made up of tiny indivisible particles (atoms).
  • Here, I wrote on the board a simple definition of the atomic theory.
  • In 1911, I proved J.J. Thomson's plum pudding structure to be incorrect.
  • I also discovered the nuclear atom in 1911.
  • Although I had many accomplishments, my model didn't account for the properties of electrons.
  • These are some facts about me and my accomplishments
  • Lastly, I was known as the pioneer of nuclear physics and the first to split the atom
  • Some people that inspired me were: Henry Moseley and Hans Geiger.
  • one, an atom was much more than just an empty space and scattered electrons
  • two,an atom must have a positively charged center that contains most of its mass
  • The results of of the structure of an atom is that I concluded that:
  • Electrons revolving in circular orbits won't be stable because of acceleration
  • This slide explains how electrons going in circular orbits won' t be stable because of acceleration.
  • Finally, my Gold Foil experiment showed that atoms were made of a charged nucleus.
