According to recent discoveries, about 99% of all of the animal species that have lived on Earth are now extinct. That’s not good.
Scientists have now discovered that around a dozen species go extinct each day.
At least two endangered Rhinos are poached each day, making it a yearly total of 946 endangered Rhinos being illegally killed.
In 2013 the Black Rhino officially became extinct, and in 2018 the last male white Rhino, Sudan, died of disease, leaving just two female white Rhinos as their entire population. This was caused by animal poachers killing the Rhino’s for their horns to sell for a large profit on the black market.
Elephants are also a usual victim of poachers, who slaughter them for their tusks for Ivory. One elephant tusk weighs about 250 pounds and one single pound of Ivory can sell on the black market for around 1,500 dollars. The reason that Ivory is so popular is the many people see it as a sign to show their wealth to make fancy carvings, furniture pieces, or put it into medicine in the false belief that it has healing properties. Around 100 elephants are killed per day for Ivory, and around 35,000 elephants are killed per year by poachers.
There are now 41, 415 species on the endangered animals RED list.
