Justinian grew up with an uncle named Justin, who was a powerful general in the army.
Justin soon became emperor, and chose Justinian as his advisor. They ruled Rome together.
Justin soon died, and Justinian was forced to grow up and rule the Rome on his own.
Justinian did not rule Rome alone for very long. He married a woman named Theodora, who had a great impact on Rome.
Justinian thought many of the rules for Rome were outdated, so he created many new rules, which were used for hundreds of years after his death.
Justinian and Theodora only had one child, but he died as an infant. So, when Justinian died, his nephew, Justin II became the emperor.
