This storyboard does not have a description.
Charles 'Trout' Walker goes with a mob and burns down the schoolhouse. This followed Kate Barlow rejecting Trout Walker, which led to this. "She heard a noise outside the door, then suddenly a mob of men and women came storming into the school building. They were led by Trout Walker." page 112. This shows that Trout Walker is a bad and jealous person that can't accept anything.
Kate Barlow goes to the sheriff after they try to burn the schoolhouse down. He is on the side of Trout Walker and informs her that he will hang Sam because he's a negro and he kissed a non-colored woman. "A hanging? Who-" "It's against the law for a negro to kiss a white woman." This shows us that people were racist at the time and that Kate Barlow cares about the schoolhouse.
Kate Barlow tries to run away with Sam after being informed that Sam would be hanged. "They set fire to the schoolhouse. The sheriff said he's going to hang you!" "Sam hesitated for a moment, as if he couldn't quite believe it. He didn't want to believe it." This shows us that Kate Barlow loved Sam and would do anything for him.
