Alexie reveals how growing up diminishes our most youthful dreams and replaces them with more realistic expectations.
As we move through life, we feel as if we have an infinite number of days to do everything and anything we want. However, years turn to months, months turn to weeks, weeks turn to days, days turn to hours, hours turn to minutes, and sooner than we can realize life has crept up behind us. Like a never ending wave of fire, slowly burning away our opportunities.
When were young, were more easygoing, kind, and eager to learn, but as time moves foward we develop our own opinions, and separate into groups or cliques. Sometimes the opinions or cliques we form cause disagreement or even violence.
As we grow the pressure of life squeezes all the more tighter, and we feel the need to fit into social stigmas. Sometimes when we don't fit in, we become destructive to ourselves in an attempt to be more of the same.
