- Jonas and Gabe leave their community and go to Elsewhere. "He left the dwelling shortly after the sky became dark and the community still" (204).
- Rescue from Without
- Jonas does go back because he knows it's best for Gabe and the community deserves to know the memories. "But if he had stayed..." (217)
- The Crossing
- Gabe and Jonas are scared and feel a lot of pain as it gets very cold. "He leaves" (163).
