  • scout goes to school for the first time and on their way to school, Jem tells scout to stay away from him at school and not to ask to play little kid games so he doesn't get made fun of .
  • scout, please don't say anything to me i don't want to get made fun of ok?
  • at school scout tells Ms. Caroline that she knows how to read and gets in trouble for telling ms.Caroline she taught herself to read which ms.caroline believes is a lie.
  • tell your father to stop teaching you to write and read its not his job
  • he didn't teach me anything! i learned myself
  • lunch time comes and Ms.Caroline aske's everyone to take out there lunch
  • everybody who goes home to lunch hold up your hands. everybody who brings his lunch put it on top of his desk
  • as miss Caroline sees everyone with lunch she spots Walter with no lunch and offers him a quarter to buy him some lunch and he tells him to pay her back but he doesn't take it
  • heres a quarter go eat downtown today pay me back tommorow
  • did you forget your lunch today Walter?
  • Nome thank you ma'am
  • yeb'm
  • scout tries to explain why Walter wont take the money from miss Caroline but fails
  • excuse me Jean-louise?!
  • Walter didn't forget his lunch he don't got money to buy lunch he's poor he cant pay you back either unless u want a bag of sticks
  • miss Caroline didn't like the way scout talked about Walter so she beat her with a ruler and made her stand in front of the classroom. with all the laughter of the kids miss Blount appered in the doorway hands on hips and made an announcement.
  • if i hear another sound from this room ill burn up everybody in it. miss caroline the sixth grade cannot concentrate on the pyramids for all this racket!
