  • Grazing with mom
  • weaning and auction
  • Back grounding pen
  • This steer spent the first six months in a pasture nursing from his mom and eating all the grasses that were there.
  • Hormone injection
  • After those six months the steer is weaned from his mom, weighed, and sold at auction by the pound.
  • Drive to slaughter
  • In the backgrounding pen the the young cows begin their new diet of antibiotics and grain. this is a particular hard time for them since they are dealing from the stress of weaning and their new, unatural diet.
  • The conveyor 
  • The cows are given an estrogen hormone injection behind the ear which has become a universal process in America. The EU has banned this practice in Europe.
  • After putting on more than 1000 pounds the cattle are moved to slaughter. they wait in a holding pen with 35 other cows. 
  • The cows are filed on to a conveyor belt single file and head to the stunner
