Storyboard Text

  • They can do that through cell division! It can start by going through the first stage, interphase. DNA is getting duplicated, replacing the damaged cells.
  • One strand of DNA is duplicated into two strands of DNA.
  • strand of DNA
  • I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to hit you in the head, but your cells must start repairing themselves!
  • You look confused. What is happening right now is called prophase. Chromosomes are forming, the membrane around the nucleus is starting to disappear, and the spindle fibers from the centrioles are stretching across the cell.
  • x
  • Spindle fibers are stretching, and the chromosomes are forming.
  • spindle fibers
  • chromosome
  • Please don't worry about me. The doctor explained me the process. Right now, metaphase is taking action. The chromosomes are lining up in the middle of the cell. Spindle fibers are attaching to the centromere of the chromosomes.
  • x
  • The chromosome lined up in the middle of the cell, and the spindle fibers have attached to the chromosomes.
  • I'm back and here to update you. At the moment, anaphase is taking place. The chromatids of each chromosome separate all the chromosomes, and forcing them to get pulled to the opposite side of the cell.
  • The chromosomes have separated, and are being pulled to opposite sides of the cell.
  • I think I know the rest. We are learning about this in science class. The next step in the cycle is telophase, and the nuclear membrane is starting to form around each group of chromosomes. The DNA returns to looses masses of strands. And the cell membrane begins to pinch.
  • The nuclear membrane has formed, the DNA is not loose strands, and the membrane is beginning to pinch.
  • Exactly. I think you are ready to go back to the tennis court.
  • Yes, I feel so much better.
  • And to finish this wonderful adventure, right now cytokinesis its taking place. The cytoplasm splits, and two genetically identical daughter cells are formed. You are all healed.
  • Final stage, until is starts the process over again. The cytoplasm has split, and here you have two genetically identical daughter cells.
