  • You'll have to wait.
  • I'M HUNGRY!
  • The Rights To The Streets Of Memphis by Richard Wright, teaches how to stand up for your self. His dad has left them, and now they are left hungry. They will have to take on new responsibilites.
  • His mom sent him out of the house to buy food. He said "I felt like a grownup." (Wright, Pg. 115)
  • He said, "When I reached the corner, a gang of boys grabbed me, knocked me down, snatched the basket, took the money, and sent me running home in panic."(Wright, Pg.115)
  • He then ran home in a hurry to tell his mom what has happened. She sent him out with more money to buy more groceries.
  • As soon as he creeped around the corner to the market, he saw the gang of boys and ran back to the house with his task unfinished. His mom was very mad. She told him,"I'm going to teach you this night to stand up and fight for yourself."
  • When he turned the corner, the gang of boys spotted him and started to run for him. He held the stick that his mom gave him as tight as he could. As soon as they approached him he swung the stick as hard as he could. The boys scattered and fell to the floor. That night he went home as a winner.
