Johnny effected Ponyboy because Johnny was such a helpless boy and that made pony boy feel sad for him so he became good friends with pony boy. pony boy feels like Johnny is a brother of his. Johnny helps pony boy by being nice to him and saving his own life
Dally helps Ponyboy by being another big brother. The way he acts like a big brother is by fighting any one who is mean to Ponyboy. Dally helps Johnny because again he will hurt anyone who stands in Johnny's way. Dally is very cocky. He is more of a good character by the end of the book.
The church affected Ponyboy because they got to socialize at the church. They played games, smoked cigarettes, and even read a book. Ponyboy and Johnny were worried that the cops would arrest them and take them to a boy's home. When they left they were scared that Johnny die of burns.
