Before there were rivers on earth, Jade Dragon controlled the clouds. She decided where and when it would rain. She was very proud of her power and the people on Earth paid her.
Jade Dragon had 4 children who helped her with her work. Their namers her Pearl, Yellow, Long and Black. Jade Dragon was filled with love and pride when she saw her children.
But one day the Jade Dragon overheard some of the towns people having a conversation. The people were tired of the rain. The Jade Dragon was furious. She then decided that if the people didn't want the rain than they could never have it again.
The clouds are gone and the sun is shining.
Finally the rain is gone!
As the rain never came and the sun beat down over head, the people were in despair. Drought and famine spread through out the land. Pants and animals withered away. The people continued to beg for rain, but the Jade Dragon didn't listen.
The people's suffering did not go unnoticed but the Jade Dragon's children. They were upset by the misery of the people on Earth. They begged their mother to forgive the people, but she wouldn't even listen to them. The children came up with a plan to save the people. They would sacrifice themselves by turning into water. They then became the four great rivers of the land.
When the Jade Dragon found out what her children had done she was angry at her self pride. She fell from the sky and turned into the Jade River, hooping that she could somehow be with her children again. The fruitless mountain reflects Jade Dragon's broken heart. Nothing lives or grows, and the land around it is hard. The Jade river is dark because of Jade Dragon's sad sprit. Fruitless Mountain will remain fruitless until Jade Dragon is reunited with at least one of her children.
