  • They took our men. We must start a war against England.
  • Native American Resistance
  • Battles in the Great lakes and Canada
  • 1809, James Madison came into office. Madison started a war against England. England captured our Americans trading with other countries and forced then to join the England Navy. So he went to Congress to start the war.
  • Burning of Washington D.C. and Fort McHenry
  • The British allied with the Native Americans so the Native Americans could attack U.S. settlers. The Indians attacked the settlers in the Northwest Territory with British supplies.
  • Battle of New Orleans
  • The U.S. declared war against England. Oliver Hazard Perry took command of the U.S. Navy in Lake Eerie. They came out with a win. Harrison also fought against England coming out with a success and he killed the Indian Chief Tecumseh.
  • Effects of the War
  • The British focused all forces to America after England's win against the French. Britain captured and set fire to U.S. capital. Britain also sieged to Fort Mchenry in Baltimore. That is where Francis Scott Key saw the American flag still flying and he wrote, what is known as today, the national anthem.
  • Andrew Jackson fought against the British and became a war hero. There were over 2,000 casualties for the British and 71 for the U.S.
  • The war ended with the treaty of Ghent. It ends the war with a truce. The effects were the American industry grows and America is a more powerful nation
  • Treaty?
  • Yes. It's a treaty!
