Montressor feels like Fortunato has hurt his feeeligs by talking bad about his family so he seeks revenge. He convinces his drunk friend,
Montressor convinces Fortuanto to go to the caticomes and taste a fine wine and along the way he gives Fortuanto several drinks to keep him intoxicated.
Montressor tied him up and Fortunato is still clueless and thinks this will be a laughing matter later.
As Montressor places the stones in their place he realizes Fortuanto has stopped screaming and this is a sign saying that Fortunato is offically dead.
Montressor places the last stone and has great remorse and guilt.
Montressor gets away wiith the murder.
