Bess struggled to untie the ropes holding her back but eventually got them undone, she could hear the trotting of the horse getting closer. She slowly stood up, still with the musket under her breast, the trots came closer.
Bess could hear the trotting of the horse getting even closer, the Redcoats were getting antsy, they were actually going to catch and kill him this time! Bess knew that if she wanted to save him she had to give the signal now, she took her last deep breath and pulled the trigger, she was dead now.
The Highwayman heard the shot, he knew someone was near, he had to get out of there. He didn't know who was shot at first but then he knew, the landlords daughter was dead, lying in her own blood. His face grew grey to hear the shot of the gun but he had to get out of there fast.
The Highwayman tried to get away as fast as he could, his spurs were red with a trail of white dust behind him, but he wasn't fast enough. The redcoats caught up to him and shot him down on the highway, dead like a dog on the highway.
