The Keller's had called a doctor because baby Helen was sick. The doctor said Helen was fine but after the doctor left Kate found out something war very wrong.Helen was both blind and deaf. Now 6 years have passed and Helen is now 6 years old. Helen always gets what she wants because her parents pity her. Also Kate is upset because she can't connect with Helen like she could a normal child.
Kate wants to truly connect with Helen but she does not know how. Aunt EV suggested an eye doctor that she she said could work miracles Kate convinced Captain Keller to write him even though Helen's half brother was wanting to take her to an asylum a "home" for the blind and deaf. But the doctors answer was a girl named Annie Sullivan.
After Annie arived Helen got into some trouble. She locked Annie in her room and took the key! Annie was stuck until Captain Keller got a ladder and got her down. Helen meanwhile Annie caught Helen hiding the key in the pump.
At breakfast Helen was grabbing at everyone's plates of food and Annie takes hers away before Helen could not get to it. Helen was angry. The Keller's tried to explain but Annie would not let it happen. Annie locked the doors with the Keller's out and it was a battle of the wills until Helen folded her napkin.
Annie was not able to reach Helen to be able to teach her so she convinced the Keller's to give her 2 weeks in the garden house with Helen. She became obedient in a week but after obedience came the spelling and discovering the meanings of words.
Water W,A,T,E,R it has a name.
After the 2 weeks Annie was still not satisfied. and at the Keller home Helen decided to test her parents. after trashing the kitchen Annie brought her outside to refill the pitcher. That's when the miracle happened. Helen wanted to spell. She understood everyone was so exited and proud of Helen.
