You could just be walking and all of a sudden...
Earthquakes are caused by the plates breaking and/or moving under the surface. This causes shaking. Sometimes it isn't even felt by those on land. The wave are recorded on a Richter scale and each each number is ten times stronger.
As you can see volcano's and earthquakes could happen at any time!
This is a Diverging boundary. This is where two two plates start to move away from each other allowing magma to flow through. This can also start earthquakes.
This is a Converging boundary. This means that the two plates move together. Because the plate needs somewhere to go, one goes under the other.
This is a Transform boundary. It is when two plates move side to side in opposite directions.
