  • Jing-mei is the only daughter because her mother used to live in china. But because of her losing everything like her mother, father, her home, her first husband, and two daughters.
  • "Key! Treble! Bass! NO sharps or flats! So this is C major! listen and play after me!"
  • Her mother wants her daughter to be a prodigy because she saw Shirley temple on T.V. So she took her to a barber shop to get a haircut like Shirley.
  • The mother got her daughter a haircut then saw A little Chinese girl on the Ed Sullivan show so she called her daughter over to see and thought she could play the piano.
  • Orion Hefling P.1
  • "I thought you want it."
  • Three days passed since that girl played the piano and their was a music teacher on the first floor. So the mother made a deal she cleans the house he gives lessons but he is deaf.
  • So her mother put her in a performance. she wasn't worried at all till she hit the wrong note and more followed after that and at the end she did a curtsy. Then one of the kids says something hurtful and she left.
  • "That was awful!"
  • "At least she tried."
  • A few years ago her mother offered to give her the piano for her to keep and play. She declined because she thought she would want it as a memory. Then after she passed away she played a piece called "Pleading child" and thought "Pleading child" is shorter but slower; "Perfectly contented" was longer but faster. Then she realized they were two halves of the same song.
  • "No you only one can play!"
