The French built multiple forts from Lake Ontario south to the Ohio River. The British responded by starting to build a fort in what is now western Pennsylvania. But the French captured it.
In 1754, the governor of Virginia sent a militia which is a military force made up of ordinary people. In this group was George Washington. He was sent to drive out the French.
Right after going to Fort Duquesne, Washington set up a small fort which he called it Fort Necessity. It was a wooden house surrounded by wooden planks. Washington's fort was later attacked by the French. The French army won the battle and forced Washington's people to surrender.
The French and the British both had lots of Native American friends. But the French had an even bigger advantage. They had a lot of Native Americans helping them.
For the British to be able to fight back the threat of the French and their Native American friends, They tried to make a treaty with the Iroquois. The Iroquois were a Native American tribe from The Eastern part of North America. They were the strongest from there area.
Britain's economy was really bad because of the war with France. As a result the British government decided to tax the colonies and make stricter trade rules. This led into conflict and a revolution.
