  • Benvolio and Mercutio talk
  • Am I such a fellow?
  • Come, come, thou art as hot as a jack in thy mood as any in Italy , and as soon moved to be moody, and as soon moody to be moved.
  • Tybalt insults Mercutio
  • Consort? What, dost thou make us minstrels? An thou make minstrels of us, look to hear nothing but discords. Here's my fiddlestick. Here's that shall make you dance. Zounds, "consort"!
  • Mercutio, thou consort'st with Romeo
  • Romeo expresses his love
  • Tybalt, the reason I have to love thee doth much excuse the appertaining rage to such a greeting. Villain I am none. Therefore, farewell. I see thou know'st me not.
  • Romeo, the love I bear thee can afford no better term than this: thou art a villain.
  • The audience sees that Mercutio likes to joke around and Benvolio may be a little sensitive when it comes to being a hothead. It shows that being a hothead can lead to a fight. It shows that even though Mercutio was making fun of Benvolio, he is also a hothead.
  • Mercutio dies
  • I am hurt. A plague o' your houses! I am sped. Is he gone and hath nothing? Ay,Ay, a scratch, a scratch. Marry, tis' enough. Where is my page?- Go, villain, fetch a surgeon.
  • The audience sees what is insulting in this time period. When Tybalt insulted Mercutio it started a fight. It shows that even when Mercutio is mad he can still make jokes and puns.

  • Who did it?
  • Romeo slew him. He slew Mercutio. Who now the price of his dear blood doth owe? And for that offense, immediately we do exile him hence.
  • The audience will feel Mercutio's anger and pain. This fight occurred because of the insult that Tybalt said to Mercutio. The way that Mercutio said it was just a scratch, it could show that he might not be the type of personto be open about what he is feeling.

  • Either thou, or I, or both , must go with him.
  • Thou, wretched boy, that didst consort him shalt with him hence.
  • The audience feels how much the prince loved Mercutio. All of this started because of an insult and now Tybalt and Mercutio are dead.
