One mistake De Courcy made was not getting permission from King Henry II to invade and rule Ireland.
Another mistake he made was forging coins with Saint Patrick's head on one side and his own on the other instead of the kings head.
He also began saying bad things about the new King, King John.
King John send knights to capture De Courcy. The knights were successful and were awarded an equal share of some of De Courcy's land and the man Hugh de Lacy was given De courcy's title. De courcy was locked up and all his possessions taken.
