Ecological Succession Comic
This storyboard does not have a description.
Full grown ecosystem which is relatively stable
Meteor strikes ecosystem, destroying all vegetation and soil.
After a catastrophe that destroys all or nearly all oflife in an ecosystem, primary succession occurs, where pioneer species such as mosses and lichens live and break down the rocky surface into soil that can support more developed plant species
Secondary succession occurs in places where intermediate catastrophes have occurred or where there is already a community of pioneer species. Vascular plants such as grasses, shrubs, and some trees can be seen in the span of 5 years.
In tertiary succession, more woody plants are seen such as trees, and the ecosystem reaches the climax community stage, which is its highest functioning stage
