Storyboard Text

  • Hi, I'm an oxygen atom, and I'm about to take you on a tour of the photosynthesis and respiration processes with my fellow atoms of water and carbon dioxide molecules.
  •
  • First we will enter a cell of this plant's leaf by going through the cell membrane, and then, we'll enter the chloroplast organelle to begin the process.
  • Now we will meet our friends, the light energy, from the sun. They will hit us and separate us atoms, then transform into chemical energy.
  • The atoms that have separated are reconnecting to create the formulas, C6H12O6 and O2. Two other oxygen molecules combined to create O2 and the rest of us will wait for more 5 more of each the water and carbon dioxide to create one glucose molecule and 6 oxygen molecules. The chemical energy is then combined with us and we have completed photosynthesis. Formula:CO2+H2O+ light energy (x6)= O2+C6H12O6 (+chemical energy).
  • x6
  • Now that we've completed photosynthesis and are now glucose and oxygen molecules (and chemical energy), we are ready to be transported to the mitochondria, where we will begin cellu ... WOAH!!! Our leaf is being consumed!
  • *munch munch*
  •
  • Now that we've entered the mouth, we will go down the throat, into the stomach, be digested and then enter the bloodstream. We will follow the bloodstream and enter a cell, then we will go to its mitochondria to complete cellular respiration.
  • In the mitochondria, our glucose molecule will be separated and recombined into water (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), and another form of cellular energy for cellular respiration.
  • Well I guess we'll be doing cellular respiration in this goat!
  • These molecules are respired (and they exit the body) and the processes are complete. So the formula for cellular respiration is: C6H12O6+O2=6 CO2+6 H2O+ energy.  This formula is the opposite of the formula for photosynthesis which is: CO2+H2O+ light energy (x6) = O2+C6H12O6.  Photosynthesis creates oxygen, glucose, and chemical energy, while cellular respiration creates carbon dioxide, water, and cellular energy. I hope you enjoyed this tour of the processes photosynthesis and respiration. Hope you have an ex-CELL-ent day!!!
