Hello! My name is Holden Caulfield and this is my story. The story "Catcher in the Rye" is me telling you about my challenges in life. I struggle in life maybe because of the lack of authority figures, I have nobody to look up to or trust, and it makes me feel alone. I just got kicked out of my 3rd school and now i plan on going and staying in New York, and then possible going out of state to live as a deaf mute
Scene 1-Holden Goes to Mr.Spencers
"Oh, I feel some concern for my future, alright. Sure. Sure, I do! But not too much, I guess. Not too much, I guess."
"Do you feel absolutely no concern for your future, boy?"
Scene 2- Holden Goes to Mr. Antolinis House
"I wake up all of a sudden. I dont know what time it was or anything but i woke up. I felt something on my head, some guys hand. Boy it really scared the hell out of me. What it was, it was Mr. Antolinis hand.
An authority figure is one that we can look up to, or is somebody who is an elder to oneself. Authority figures can be parents, teachers, coaches, etc.
During this scene, Holden goes to one of his favorite teachers at Pencey, Mr. Spencer, to say goodbye and ask for advice. For Holden, this encounter is huge because he always wanted somebody to be able to talk to and go to with his issues.
During this scene, Holden goes to somebody named Mr. Antolinis house for advice, and somewhere to sleep. During this scene, Holden wakes up to something very strange happening, Mr. Antolini is touching him well he was asleep, Holden then leaves. Things like this may be why Holden has issues with elders and authority figures.
