Storyboard Text

  • During transnation, DNA is copied to create a messenger RNA molecule (mRNA) in the nucleus.
  • DNA
  •
  • Transcription
  • RNA
  • At the end of transcription, the mRNA travels out of the nucleus and into the cytoplasm to a ribosome.
  • After Transcription
  • Nucleus
  •  Translation is when the mRNA is then decoded to create amino acids. This takes groups of 3 nucleotides called condons.  The relationship between the amino acids and condons is called the genetic code. Translation takes 3 steps: initiation, elongation and termination. Initiation is when the ribosome, mRNA and tRNA come together to form the initiation complex needed to create a protein.Elongation then takes place where the amino acid chain gets longer.
  • Translation
  •  Finally termination happens when a stop codon is recognized by proteins, called release factors, in the A site.  Release factors add a water molecule to the last amino acid of the chain, and this causes a reaction that causes the amino acid chain to separate from the tRNA to make a newly made protein
  • After Translation
  • Protein
  • If problems occur in either transcription or translation in can cause harm or can benefit the protein it creates. Since transcription is making a copy of the DNA and is transferring it to the RNA then that problem will be transferred to the RNA which then creates the protein and that problem will then be passed down to the protein.
  • Problems if Mistakes are Made During Either Process
  • Why DNA is Considered the "Blueprint of Life"
  • DNA is considered the "blueprint of life" because DNA provides all the information fro building all the proteins in every living thing. Every living things depends on its proteins in order to survive and it wouldn't have any if it weren't for the DNA.
