King Acrisius of Argos had one child, a daughter, Danae. He journeyed to Delphi to ask the god if there was any hope that one day he would have a son. He was told no, and even worse, his daughter would have a son that would kill him.
Acrisius had a house built made of bronze where he shut her up and guarded her. One day a shower of gold filled her chamber and she knew that the child she bore was Zeus’ son, a secret she kept from her father.
One day Acrisius found out about Perseus and he had a great chest made, where he placed the child and his mother and cast them into the water.
