Storyboard Text

  • Excuse me sir, who are you? Where are you from?
  • My name is William Penn. I was born on October 14, 1644 in London, England.
  • You seen interesting, Mr. Penn. What was your childhood like?
  • Growing up, I wanted to practice the Quaker teachings. Eventually I became the leader the Quakers, also known as the Society of Friends.
  • While I was in England, I was constantly arrested for involvement in Quaker activities. If it was not for my father being famous, I may have never been released from the police.
  • Court House
  • Mr. Penn! Why are you by the court house?
  • You do not look familiar, what brings you to Pennsylvania?
  • Before, I moved to Pennsylvania, I was a quaker in England. This was really hard for me, and I liked the idea of being in a free place with many quakers.
  • After I helped establish Pennsylvania, I worked to develop Philadelphia. In Philadelphia, my fellow Quakers and I built a successful city and had positive relationships with the Native Americans.
  • Mr. Penn, how have you been lately?
  • Mr. Penn, before I say my final goodbye, please do tell me how the rest of your life ended up!
  • Since I last saw you, I constantly traveled between Pennsylvania and England. Although I was very short on money and have had some hard times recently, I am pleased with my impact on Pennsylvania and the Quaker community.
