In 2003, at just the age of 8, Austin Hatch was in a plane crash that killed his mother, Julie, younger brother Ian and older sister Lindsay.
In 2011, Austin Hatch is offered a scholarship to play basketball at Michigan by John Belien.
In 2011, nine days after a 16-year-old Austin committed to play at Michigan, his father, stepmother, Kimberly, and a family dog were killed in another plane crash.
With the second plane crash seriously injuring Austin's ability to walk for the next couple years. John Belien personally called Austin and kept his scholarship on the team as a manager at Michigan.
Austin got to spend the next four years with the Michigan basketball team as the head manager while also recovering from the injuries he suffered in the second plane crash.
During his final senior night at Michigan, they honored him with a tribute and a framed jersey
