Storyboard Text

  • We need to handle the number of new judgeships that President Adams created before he left. We need to repeal the Judiciary Act of 1801.
  • I, William Marbury, am going to sue James Madison to force him to deliver my commision as a justice of the peace.
  • I'm John Marshall. If the court awards you,Marbury, a writ of mandamus, the Jeffersonians will most likely ignore it. If they don't give you one it will look like the justices acted out of fear.
  • Hamilton should've delivered you your commision. You cannot be given a writ of mandamus though because according to the Constitution, the Supreme Court doesn't have the authority to issue them.
  • Since the Judiciary Act of 1789 contradicts the Constitution, it will no longer be enforced. I will however punish the Jeffersonians but not create a court order that would be laughed at.
  • The importance of me, William Marbury, is the assumption of several powers in Supreme court. They are the authority to declare congress acts unconstitutional, the final authority on what the document meant, and an equal partner in government.
