I am so angry! Why should myself and my family be suffering through higher taxes when we were the ones chosen to survive the horrible plague!
The peasants were furious at how they were made to pay more taxes than before. They believed that surviving the black death made them special!
No more taxes!!!!!
The king was only 14 years old, so was being told what to do by advisors. They were the ones who told him to increase the taxes.
The peasants decided they were no longer scared to stand up for themselves. A peasant called Wat Tyler led them in what is called 'the peasants' revolt'
Much to everyone's surprise, the king agreed to meet the peasants by a river. When they yelled at him to lower the taxes, instead of arguing, he just agreed and said that he would lower the taxes! The peasants were shocked!
LOWER THE TAXES!
But the king had lied. There were no changes in the tax system whatsoever; even after he told the peasants that he would change it.
The peasants were furious! They returned to London and killed anyone associated with the Royal Government.
