  • Two guards are joined by Horatio, a friend of Prince Hamlet during their watch of the castle.
  • A ghost suddenly appears, startling the men.
  • Oh my! 'Tis a ghost!
  • Horatio, try to speak with it.
  • Yes, but it seems to have vanished. We must tell Hamlet
  • The ghost soon disappears, leaving the men with many questions.
  • It looked like our former, King Hamlet.
  • Although we mourn the loss of our former king, I have married his wife to restore this country.
  • Although we mourn the loss of our former king, I have decided to marry his wife, Gertrude, in hopes of restoring this country.
  • King Claudius announces his marriage for the former King Hamlet's wife, Gertrude.
  • How could you forget so soon...it was less than two months ago that he died.
  • Claudius addresses Hamlet's mourning and supports Polonius in sending his son, Laertes, to France
  • I urge you to forget and move on to think of me as your father.
  • Listen to Claudius my son. He wants what is best for you.
  • Hamlet questions why the world can be so cruel. How his uncle can marry his mother so soon after his father's death.
  • Oh why is this world so cruel? I wish to die.
