My husband and I were forced to leave our country
Our home country was Venezuela. We had to leave because of our family.
And so my husband Mato Villanueve, and me Xiomara Villanueve were off to America
At the immigration office, they did the best they could for us.
They sent us to a small apartment in the poorer side of New York City
We had to share this apartment with 3 other families.
Our new neighbors would gossip about where we were from, and the color of our skin.
After a few years, we bought our own small house. We even had two children
