  • Here Americans built huge plantations and dominated the economy 
  • Hawaiian natives were mad because they felt like Americans were taking over their country
  • Queen Lili'uokalani took over the Hawaiian throne in 1891 after her brother passed away
  • Members of the Annexation club and American residents organized the Committee of Safety and attacked the government office building
  • In fear for the lives of her people, the queen of Hawaii relinquished her authority
