  • The America's bloodiest war (1861-1865) that resulted in the death of more than 620 000 and millions more injured. This war was fought to determine the survival of the Union for the Confederacy.
  • Uncle Tom's Cabin
  • The dispute of slavery led to secession that brought the war between the Northern and Western states. The South fought to create an independence as a new confederate under it own constitution. The South wanted slave labors to work on their large plantations and performed many other jobs for them without payment. However, the North wanted to abolish the slaves.
  • The Dred Scott Decision

  • The Underground railroad (1780-1862) was a network or secret meeting places that used by slaves to escape from slave holders to Northern states and Canada. This was helped by the group of abolitionists that wanted to end slavery.
  • Harriet Tubman
  • Uncle Tom's Cabin was published by abolitionist Harriet Beecher Stowe in 1852. It delivered the message that slavery was a political contest and a moral struggle. This book caused the Northern abolitionists to protest against the Fugitive Slave Act while the Southerners were angry about it.

  • Dred Scott was a slave that fought for citizenship and later his case ended up in the Supreme Court. The decision stated that no African can become a U.S. citizen. It also overturned the Missouri Compromise of 1820
  • Harriet Tubman (1819-1913) was an abolitionist that helped many slaves to run away through the Underground Railroad. She also acted as a Civil War nurse. In addition, she also acted as a spy during the America Civil War.
