Storyboard Text

  • Beginning
  • No'm
  • Leave the butter, Cassie, and go on in with the boys.
  • All of them, to quiet. Here it is Saturday morning and they're quiet as church mice, and i can't shake the feeling that is has something to do with-Cassie! Cassie, you hurt?
  • Say, y'all hear the latest 'bout them nightmen? Now this kind of information ain't for the ears of little kids so I really shouldn't even tell y'all-
  • "Then don't!"
  • Middle
  • All that work he doing, I could've done it myself.
  • What's the matter with you boy, not liking Mr.Morrison?
  • While Cassie was churning butter, Big Ma realizes that all the children are acting weird and abnormal. Quiet, inactive. Mama asks if there is something that she needs to tell her, but she denies it, and is sent to dip out the butter. In quiet whispers, Mama questioned Big Ma if Cassie could've seen something, but is cut off by Big Ma and assures her that she checked on her during the night. Cassie loses her balance, and falls, the plate she was holding broken into scattered shards on the floor. Mama sends her to go with the boys.
  • Hey, wait a minute man, let me explain-
  • In another room, Stacey is talking to the other 3, and catches all of their attention when he starts talking about the nightmen, that they had went down to Mr.Sam Tatum's place and that they tarred him, until Stacey interrupts him that they had to take some milk and butter to Miz Jackson's, relieved that they were riding for a different reason. Then, they catch T.J finding answers to a test in mama's things while they leave, T.J denying it. ( This used to be a conflict, since the children were afraid the night men were coming for them, but T.J"s assurance was the solution.
  • End
  • He had himself a mind like a steel trap.
  • Next Monday, after cleaning Mr.Morrison's shed, they ask Mama if they can visit him so they can learn more, after mama refuses, but Stacey doesn't get why they want to got see him. Cassie asks why he thinks this, and says that he could've done all the work.
  • *wheeze*
  • During class, when Stacey was trying to get T.J to stop using cheat notes, T.J slipped them to Stacey when ma came around, and Stacey got whipped. So, in revenge Stacey hunted him down to Wallace store, in which the children followed, and beat him up. Soon, Mr.Morrison comes in and tells them to get into the cart, and persuades Stacey to tell mama, in which the children protest heavily. (To me, this was the main conflict in the chapter, and was solved by Mr.Morrison's breakup of the fight.
  • When they get home, they see the Granger's car, and Big Ma says that he was just here pestering about taking the land back from them. In the forest Big Ma tells about her husband and their love for the land that they owned. (This is a potential conflict since this can lead to disputes between the 2 families.
  • That evening Stacey tells ma about what happened, but doesn't say that it was T.J's notes. The children aren't punished, but they are forced to come that Saturday telling people to not but at the Wallace store, including Mr.Berry, who was burnt by the Wallace, and Mr.Turner.
  • Daddy, who you s'pose done come to see 'bout us?
  • Miz Logan and her babies. Ain't that something?
